VAT plays such a big role in many organisations. The accuracy validity and completeness of VAT calculations and adherence to VAT compliance rules is paramount to avoid penalties and interest being levied.
In this session we will unpack the following:
• Discussion of the more advanced and complex VAT principles which is often not dealt with correctly in practice and where a misconception is often present
• VAT compliance principles related to completing VAT201s
• VAT risk areas that are often subject to SARS scrutiny
• Recent VAT case law containing important principles to be on the lookout for in practice
The session will include practical examples where relevant to the content and will contain a good mix of an explanation of the principles and illustration of its impact on transactions.

Karen Van Wyk

Karen Van Wyk is a chartered accountant. She has a passion for taxation and has lectured at a post-graduate level at the University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand. She has also been involved in various initiatives of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), lecturing on the Thuthuka programme and marking and umpiring the Initial Test of Competence (formerly known as the Qualifying Examination Part 1 for trainee accountants). Karen is also a regular presenter of advanced taxation CPD sessions and webinars.
