Edwin Selbst
Edwin has in excess of 20 years experience in assurance and audit quality. Edwin started SARE Consulting in March 2019 when he purchased the Audit Risk and Advisory division from W.consulting. He trained at a medium-sized audit firm with experience of more than 10 years as an audit engagement partner, working on JSE listed companies, Non Profit Companies and owner managed businesses. Edwin also served as the Technical Partner for five years where he gained experience in IFRS, IFRS for SMEs, audit risk and audit quality and presented training to both audit staff and partners.
Edwin headed the W.consulting’s Governance Risk and Consulting Division for 7 years, and has been involved in the preparation of annual financial statements for certain listed entities and SMEs, has consulted on audit quality, and developed and presented training. Edwin has also acted as an audit expert in the preparation of confirmatory affidavits for a case being heard by the High Court of South Africa. Edwin is actively involved at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the past chairman of the Assurance Guidance Committee and has served on several of their sub-committees. He also is an attendee of the Committee for Assurance Standards of the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors
(IRBA).
His areas of expertise include the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), International Standard on Quality Control, IRBA Guides, Companies Act No. 71 of 2008, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs), SAICA Code of Professional Conduct, SAICA Guides. He provides technical consulting services and training to the firm's clients on these frameworks, both locally and internationally.
