Information | The distinction between an accrual a financial liability a provision and a contingent liability is something that we often take for granted as we are au fait with financial reporting. Having dealt with these three concepts over the years it is possible that our appreciation of how they arise and are accounted and the differences in the requirements for each one of them for has been blurred and the changes in the accounting standards with the introduction of IFRS 9 and talk of possible changes to how provisions are addressed would probably have added to the murkiness of our appreciation of the requirements. In this course we will address the accounting principles that are covered by the following standards all of which address the accounting for liabilities:
- Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting
- IFRS 9 Financial Instruments
- IAS 37 Provisions Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets
